Project: NIDA Sculptural Creatures Project
Materials: PLA filament, silicone paint, water-clear resin, plywood
Using Zbrush I 3D modelled the Yara-ma-yha-who creating it’s face, arm and hand seperately so I could focus on the small details, I then assembled the models together
I 3D printed the model in small segments, assembling them starting from the neck and shoulders outwards, I glued them together with two-part epoxy resin and filled the gaps with Earls multifill before sanding the model down and priming it
Silicone paint mixed with a red oxide pigment was applied with an airbrush in several layers with darker and lighter tones, sand was sprinkled to his head and stuck down with the airbrushed resin so that his skin had a lumpy texture
Water-clear resin was mixed with a yellow pigment and was poured into a vacuum-formed semi-circle to create the glossy eyes
Finally, the sculpture was mounted on a painted black plywood frame and leaves were scattered in front.
